Triton College Highlights Workforce Impact During Community College Month

RIVER GROVE, Ill. — Triton College joins institutions nationwide this month in celebrating Community College Month, highlighting the essential role community colleges play in strengthening the workforce and expanding economic opportunity.

As employers across the Chicago region and the nation navigate evolving workforce needs, community colleges continue to play an enduring role in building the skilled workforce that drives communities forward. Nationally, community colleges serve more than 10.5 million students, many balancing work and school, while enrollment continues to grow as learners seek affordable, flexible pathways to high-demand careers. In Illinois, that impact is especially significant, with more than 274,000 students enrolled in community colleges and enrollment increasing for the fourth consecutive year, reflecting strong demand for accessible education and workforce training, according to the Illinois Community College Board.

“Employers need skilled workers, and students need clear, affordable pathways to opportunity—community colleges deliver both,” said Triton College President Mary-Rita Moore.

With more than 130 degree and certificate programs, “our institution moves students toward real opportunities and high-demand careers after two years of study,” said President Moore. “This combination of speed, flexibility and high-quality education is a hallmark of Triton College, providing students a level of access and support that is often unmatched in higher education.”

Triton’s commitment to educational excellence, supported by strong student resources, transfer opportunities and a culture of student success, has earned national recognition. The college has been designated a 2026 Leader College by Achieving the Dream, a national organization dedicated to advancing community colleges as accessible hubs of learning, credentialing and economic mobility. Combined with Triton’s recent eligibility for the Aspen Prize, the recognition affirms that strong student outcomes are achievable when access and academic excellence align.

Since its founding in 1964, Triton College has built a legacy of academic excellence and student success made possible by its dedicated faculty and staff. Comprehensive student services, vibrant campus life, strong community partnerships and a commitment to access and affordability ensure that every learner has the resources to support them throughout their academic journey.

“During Community College Month, we celebrate the life-changing power of accessible, high-quality education, and we’re proud to open doors to opportunity for every student who chooses Triton College to build their future.” said President Moore.

Community College Month is a national grassroots campaign led by the Association of Community College Trustees to highlight the value and impact of community colleges.
